Sometimes he found Mozenrath in the library. Sometimes he found other people or just a book to read. Today he found a book first, and sat where he could watch the door, mostly only pretending to read.

Crane entered the library, cradling a stack of books that he had to return. They were highly ordinary in most regards - he hardly wanted to risk another trip to zero if the wardens got antsy about his reading materials.

He caught sight of Akio, and paused. He stared. He remembered him, vaguely, but couldn't quite recall from where.

Akio glanced up from his reading and allowed himself a smile. "Do you want help with that?"

Crane looked at Akio blankly for a moment, and then down at the pile of books.

"You work here?" If he did, sitting and reading had officially become Crane's preferred work detail.

He went to visit the flowers, especially the possible roses. He really hated them, but they were a reminder of what he'd lost. It made him irritable, but he didn't show what he felt on his face.

Prefect had taken surprisingly quickly to working in the gardens. It hadn't been something he was... enormously enthusiastic about originally, but once he'd managed to break it down to a list of tasks which he could obsessively focus on completing, it had gotten easier for him, and now, it was approaching a level of compulsion similar to the kind he'd once devoted to his work at the factory.

He was so engrossed in his work, that when Akio entered, it took him a moment to notice the other mans presence, but when he did he immediately offered him a warm smile, "Comrade! How are you?"

Akio hadn't quite been expecting to find anyone here, so the voice surprised him. He smiled when he realized who it was, a genuine smile at that. He liked Prefect. Akio put his hands in his pockets and wandered over to Prefect.

"I didn't know I'd see you here." He wouldn't echo the "comrade" but his voice and expression were warm in every other way.

"I work here" Prefect replied, holding up his hands. He was wearing heavy gardening gloves, but had failed to change anything else about his clothes, so he was still working in a suit, "Sam assigned me a few months ago. I'm not here all the time, but... quite frequently."

He collected little Dios and walked him to Angelica's cabin door. Akio knew to knock politely and wait. He didn't want to go inside or risk seeing her hairy husband.

Angelica ready and waiting for that knock on her door. She opened it with a forced smile, nodding her hello to Akio and giving the excited little dog a few pats on the back. "Top deck or CES? Tis your choice to-night."

"The CES would be a nice change, so long as we aren't swimming with flesh-eating fauna." He still remembered that embarrassing incident. He could tell Angelica was either cross with him over how things have been lately or tense, but it wasn't his choice to needle her about it. The longer his warden stewed in the silence, the happier he was. The little dog wagged his tail and clawed at her skirts for more attention. He seemed to like her better than he did Akio.

"Agreed," she said with a laugh. Angelica locked her door behind her as she stepped out into the corridor. "All-right, Akio, let's away to the CES." Lately her heart had not been in much of anything, but she saw their walks as her duty and so tried to brighten some during them.

The happy pup did always make her feel somewhat better. She gave him plenty of attention as they wandered towards the warden-only section of the Barge. "How has your day been?"

Akio poked unhappily at his dinner. He wasn't very hungry, at least not for food. He wanted company.

Laura, who had been on dinner shift as always, took her meal and sat at a table near Akio's. She was rather preoccupied, not really paying attention to who was there--she was just planning to finish eating in time to get back to the kitchen for cleanup duty.

Akio looked up from his plate and watched her a few minutes. He remembered her from when he'd borrowed something from her for Mozenrath, and he'd since invited her to the duels. The ring looked elegant on her hand, despite not being quite as nice as the rose crests he'd been able to supply at Ohtori. A fine hand like that would make anything elegant, he thought.

He pushed his tray away and stood. He pulled out the chair opposite hers and sat, not bothering to ask. "You look like you're thinking hard about something," he observed, exactly as if they were good friends or she'd invited him. "Do you mind sharing?"

Laura eyed Akio a little warily as he sat down. He acted nice enough, and had a refined air about him (and he owed her a favor), but he reminded her a lot of a man she'd once known by the name of Jean Renault. They acted very much the same, and Jean was a very dangerous man. She wouldn't be surprised if Akio matched him in that aspect as well.

"I missed my birthday," she said, poking at her dinner with her fork.

Another walk with Dios, more to burn off the little dog's excessive energy. He let him off the lead and threw a little ball, watching it bounce along with the furry creature chasing it.

Mozenrath was on deck getting some air before his shift started. He didn't eat much at dinner, and had another half hour before he really needed to worry about getting to the pub. He didn't expect Akio up there -- or a...dog? He and Xerxes shared a glance.

Akio spies him, and kneels to beckon Dios back. "Here Dios... good boy." He scratches the little creature's fuzzy white head, and snaps the lead into place on his collar. Then he stands and walks toward Mozenrath.

"I didn't think to see you out here."

"Well, it's been a long week, and I like a little fresh air before work." He leans against the railing, looking decidedly sour. It could be certain that their last conversation was still fresh in his mind.
