Mano had resumed his watch over Armand (now that he'd recovered from his transformation)... just in time for Armand to start responding? He brushed away Armand's tears as best he could with his left hand, but the tears came faster than Mano expected.

"You are alive... I am here for you, Armand..." Mano whispered to his Warden, trying to soothe him.

Armand flinched away from the touch, not because it was Mano, but because it was anyone. He didn't even open his eyes; he recognized Mano's voice. That didn't calm him by itself, though the tender concern worked through the fear enough to puzzle him.

Still curled and wanting desperately to hide from the world, Armand reached blindly to try to catch Mano's hand. "Mano? What?" He wanted to ask what happened, but he thought he remembered. Perhaps he didn't want details. He'd expected Jack to be here, but knew in his heart he wouldn't want Jack to see him like this.

Martha had been in the office when she heard the beeping start, and she had put her hand to her mouth and dropped the papers she had been holding in response to it. The longer it had taken for Armand to come back, the more Martha had worried that he wouldn't have come back at all. She took a deep breath and ran across the infirmary, wishing that Jack had been there. As soon as she got him stabilized she would send him a message.

She gathered the metal tray with everything that she needed for him on it. Several times she'd made up the tray and then unmade it, not wanting anything to go bad on it when the day turned into another one. Still, IV fluid, painkillers and Martha smiled quickly to Mano when she went to Armand's side.

One hand was gently placed on Mano's shoulder before she spoke softly. "See, I told you he'd come back." A reassuring pat then Martha turned her attention to Armand. "It's all right, we've got you. You're safe." She gave his hand a squeeze. "I'm going to give you some fluids and something for the pain."

Mano himself jolted a bit at the touch; he still wasn't used to the sensations -- not unless the touch was meant to hurt him? Then he calmed down. "Thank you, doctor." he replied quietly, then let her go to her work.

[in cabin] for Jack Harkness young_idealist July 1 2010, 18:55:21 UTC
Martha eventually let Armand go to his cabin, and when she did, she sent him with an IV and a promise to check on him every few hours. Inside the room, Armand carefully locked the door and shed his clothes, heading unsteadily for his bathtub. He knew Martha would yell at him--or thought she would anyway--but he pulled out the IV needle as he ran water to fill the4 tub, blessed hot water, such a modern miracle ( ... )

Jack wasn't above breaking down the door. It could be fixed, or replaced, and it didn't matter. When Jack had gone to the infirmary to find Armand absent, it didn't take long to find where he'd moved to. Moved to on his own. Awake. Alive.

When no answer came as he banged his fist on the door, again and again, Jack took a step back and brought his foot up, bringing it down on the place of most resistance. It shuddered inward as it broke, and Jack wasted no time walking in.

"Armand?"

Even if he'd not heard or could ignore the pounding on the door, Armand couldn't miss the sound of the door shattering. He shivered, not looking forward to this encounter. After a few abortive tries to gather his voice, he called out, "In here..."

If he wasn't so shaky, he'd stand and find his dressing robe so he wouldn't be in the bath. But he couldn't do it so quickly the way he felt. So he waited, chin up, holding his knees with his wet hair spread across his bare back. The dizziness, nausea and exhaustion all made his head swim alarmingly. For the moment, he wasn't feeling any pain.

Jack followed that sound immediately, all but running the few short paces into the bathroom. Still in his greatcoat, he dropped to a knee besides the tub and threw both arms around Armand, pulling him tight against his chest. He pressed his cheek against wet hair, eyes closed as he tried - and failed - to find something to say.

"About time," he finally forced himself to choke out.
