Misato had a tendency to prowl the halls when she got restless- it was exercise and it meant she could pretend to be doing something useful which lurking in the gym didn't really provide.

She turned the corner just in time to see someone she didn't recognize try to put his fist through the wall and, remembering her conversation with Swing, resisted her automatic impulse to pull her Glock. No need to be all swagger and bravado, Katsuragi. He might just be having a bad day. Who could blame him?

"Cool it, mister," she said, with some forced gentleness. "You just arrived, right? I can explain everything."

He watched as the split skin on his knuckles closed. It happened quickly, but more slowly than it should have. He was distracted from his thoughts by the sound of a woman speaking.

There was the first person. Wesker barely paid attention to what she was saying as he advanced. Had he been in a more reasonable state of mind and not slightly poisoned and consumed with rage at the moment he probably would have waited for an explanation and then killed her.

"I do not need your explanation!" He snarled. Wesker could figure out what was going on for himself later. It couldn't be that difficult. He lunged, but he lacked the superior speed he was accustomed to. Even without his inhuman speed and strength Wesker was confident he was still more than a match for her.

"Hey! Hey," Misato shouted. She moved to the side so quickly as to avoid being rammed into, that she nearly lost her footing and slumped against the wall. Don't draw your gun. Don't draw your gun. She killed hundreds of men in NERV without even flinching, but she was supposed to be better here, something that people could respect, and if anything, pulling a gun on the bastard was only gonna piss him off more.

And she saw the way his knuckles healed.

"I'm unarmed. Jesus. Look. No one's gonna hurt you, so just calm the fuck down."

She braced herself, ready to retaliate physically if he came at her again, despite knowing she'd be sorely outclassed. She was forfeiting her own life in the pursuit of some measly bit of respect, more than likely.

Respect you'll just buy back when the next bout of self-loathing comes along?

Too slow. He needed to be faster. "So many useless people, you should all be dead." Weak, unarmed. Worthless.

Wesker hadn't gone too far past her when she dodged; he was close enough that he could catch her as he came back around with a spin kick. She couldn't dodge him forever.
