As he made his way to the gentleman's room, it occurred to Louis that he did not know the Merchant's name. He has used the term comrade, and thus Louis mused with the possibility that the man was from the Russian Empire. He had never reached thus far in his travels for no reason good or bad. Perhaps he would ask the man of it, and be rewarded with a regalement.

Louis, dressed in a casual black suit circa 1880 found his way to the door and knocked three times politely.

Prefect opened the door grinning and extending his hand when he saw that his visitor had arrived, "Comrade! Welcome!" He too was dressed in a suit, albeit one from a slightly later era than Louis's, and his eyes had the kind of faint strain of a man who doesn't quite get enough sleep.

"Please, come in brother. The kettle is boiling, and... I'm afraid I don't have any milk, but I've got sugar, if you take it?"

That wasn't strictly true. Prefect had sweetener, but he'd never fully understood the difference himself.

Louis smiled and took the man's hand. The vampire had fed tonight so his body was not as cool as it was when he awoke, but unfortunately the blood supply on the ship did not quite have the same effect of warming the skin as did the taking of a live victim. As a consequence his touch may have been chillier than expected. There was very little he could have done for it really, but he was practiced in fooling men of his normality. He distracted the man with banter.

"Bonsoir, friend. Sugar is treat to the senses and as I am one known to indulge I should not hinder my reputation by refusing you."

He crossed the threshold and surveyed his surroundings. He'd seen far worse, but he could already sense the distant heat of the kettle boiling and a sudden comfort quelled him.

"I'm afraid I have misplaced my manners completely, I am Louis de Pointe du Lac. Thank you for your hospitality."

The brief, mild nervousness that came over Prefect for the duration of the handshake eclipsed any possible concerns about the temperature of Louis' skin, and he withdrew his hand quickly without even the faintest idea that the other man was anything but human.

As Louis entered the room, Prefect turned back towards the kettle to fill the empty mug with tea and sugar. He didn't want to make Louis uncomfortable by being overly attentive, but he was sort of fascinated by the way the man spoke. When he introduced himself, Prefect gave a slight nod. It made perfect sense for the kind of person who said things like 'Bonsoir' to have five words in his name. He'd probably won them in a noble duel of some kind ( ... )
