Inara had been above deck exploring without much purpose or drive. It hadn't been easy to pull herself out of the funk that Shinzon's attack had left her and most of the Barge in, but she finally felt put-together for the first time in weeks. It was nice to run her hands along the door to the pub and laugh inwardly at the cheeky sign the Admiral had left for everyone. It was the first place that she had let loose on the Barge with Donny Donowitz, and where she and Toshiko often convened to have tea and chat in low voices about everything from politics to feng shui ( ... )

Brian took a deep, silent breath, and flipped a mental switch.

When he lurched around the corner, he looked convincingly distressed, though not overly so. He didn't want her to feel like she needed backup.
