What is the deal with the expression "shit-eating grin"? Why would you grin while eating shit? Wouldn't it make more sense as "shit-eating grimace" or "candy-eating grin" or ... I can't think of any word to replace "eating" that would work.

Also, why do people fall head over heels in love? Isn't that the normal configuration?
