Rainy Days [L&M]

Gail is in England. Official citizen and everything. It's amazing what Harry can do with that little bit of paper of his. "Psychic paper", he calls it, and it's just brilliant. She likes British slang - "brilliant" and "wicked" and it's all so different and so fun. It's an adventure ( Read more... )

The Master's pacing the study. News of the Doctor. But then, there's always news of the Doctor, and it's almost more than he can bear to stay behind the scenes, to prevent paradox. (The TARDIS isn't ready yet, and won't be for a while, and there are bigger paradoxes to prevent than this one. Or so he keeps telling himself.)

He takes another sip of Scotch, and tells himself it's all about patience. All about waiting until everything's in place. Besides, he's got this lovely new toy... But he's tired, damn it all. Tired of being patient with her and with the Doctor, and...

He wants to hurt something. When they brought him back, they brought him back with the drums turned to maximum, and even after everything, after the damned Time War, they're still beating louder than ever before, over and over in his head. They demand blood. They demand conquest. Before he even knows what he's doing, the glass is flying through the air, hitting a Ming vase with a crash that echoes through the house ( ... )

The crash is loud, echoing perhaps louder than it should, given that Gail's been listening for any hint that Harry's come out of his study and is at all social.

She yelps, quite against her will, and the book ends up halfway across the room.

That can not be good.

She's on her feet almost instantly, after having recovered from the startled flailing, and at the door of his study in moments, knocking a bit urgently. "Harry? You alright in there? I heard something crash."

He's at the door in an instant, with something not-quite-sane in his eyes.

"Abby." His voice is soft, dangerous, like razors hidden under silk. "I do believe I asked that you not disturb me here." A hand works itself into her hair, not hurting, but it's there, just beneath the surface, a palpable threat.

"Would I have been correct in that assumption?"

She gasps a little, instinctively tilting her head back a little to keep her hair from being pulled. She... was not expecting this. It scares her, makes her heart pound.

He's better than this. He's just stressed over... something. Something upset him. He wouldn't hurt her.

"Yes," she says faintly. "I'm sorry, I was just worried."

"I've kept some distance between us for a reason, Abby. You've seen that. Think very hard about whether you want to get any closer."

The warning in his eyes is clear: I could hurt you.

But the pressure of his hands on her hips, the way his body carefully does not move against hers, the soft kiss he gives her just then... Those ask a different question. Would you really mind so much if I did? Wouldn't it be worth it?

Normal circumstances? Gail would probably be hesitant. Would say she'd think about it. As much as she trusts him, she is cautious, sometimes. She's seen a friend or two practically destroyed by abusive relationships.

But her heart is racing and he's kissing her so softly, so sweetly, and she wants him so badly. She's not thinking straight, couldn't think straight if she wanted to.

Couldn't think straight if her life depended on it. Which, incidentally, it sort of does.

He doesn't move, but to kiss her, and she kisses back, pressing against him, answering his unspoken questions without even realizing it.

"I trust you," she whispers almost shyly against his lips.

Silly girl.

Silly girl, indeed. But she's given her consent, and he moves his hips against hers, bending down to nip sharply at her neck -- not too hard, he's not out to draw blood (yet), but enough to elicit a gasp from most people.

A second later he's soothing the bitten spot with kisses and gentle licks.

"Are you sure about that?" He smirks slightly against her neck.

And gasp she does, her arms tightening around his neck instinctively. It hurt, it really did, but...

Not too badly.

He made it better.

He's just trying to prove a point.

Rationalization and naivety are Gail's downfall. But still, she closes her eyes and smiles a little, turning her head to whisper in his ear. "Yes."

She's sure. Harry cares about her - he wouldn't hurt her. Not really.
