Take off the battery of your fire alarm is my suggestion.

That looks good!

Urgh but there's still going to be digusting smoke that will congeal into oil over EVERYTHING.

I think I'm going to grill them outside and then bring them into the oven to finish off, if I can find a tight enough fitting lid...

if you still want a fire alarm but don't want the thing to go off all the time, wrap it in a plastic bag.

1) clean your oven, there's probably something on the bottom burning to cause all the smoke.
2) use the stove vent.
3) use a fan.
4) open your doors/windows.

hah. can you tell i have this problem often? my fire alarm is much too close to my kitchen... everytime i use the broiler, alarm goes off.

1) the smoke happened when i put the steak on the very very hot cast iron pan. btw cast iron is a bitch to maintain...
2) it was on high, it does nothing
3) man, i might try this but it's just blowing the smoke somewhere else (and the smoke is all rendered fat...digusting when it congeals)
4) doesn't work. i tried it yesterday.

in conclusion i may just have to get a propane burner for outside :)

but the combo of fan + open windows and doors means it blows *out* of your house. i'm assuming you don't mind getting grease on the outdoors.

Problem is I have an open kitchen and the closest windows are across the living room. : (

Cast... cast-iron skillet does that. It always happened when Mike made his Hawaiian chicken... and his steak! Basically... open all your windows and doors is all we did... and deal with smoke in your apartment. :P Take the batteries out, though!

I want steak! Make me steak. :P

It looks like everyone's covered the fire alarm thing, so all I'll say is:
