DEATHLY HALLOWS

Jul 23, 2007 06:18

So I took my time with this book, dawdled, if you will, knowing subconciously that it was the last one and that I should savor it. But I'm finally finished... so here are some initial thoughts. Since it's six in the morning, though, and I've been reading all night, I will hopefully have more to say after I catch up on a bit of sleep.

YES, THERE ARE HARRY POTTER SPOILERS UNDER HERE! )

I didn't like the epilogue either. I really wish she had let us know what everyone ended up becoming job wise since that was a really big plot point before and the whole (real) reason they were in school to begin with!

And Hedwig! That really kind of ruined the book for me. :(

Yeah, I think the only one we found out about was Neville, right? I bet he was Professor of Herbology.

I'm sure Ron, Hermione, and Harry were allowed to sit N.E.W.T. exams or whatever they needed to "complete" their Hogwarts education, without actually having attended their final year.

I think Harry probably became an Auror, but the question is, are Aurors necessary after the final fall of the Dark Lord? I guess there is still the potential for Dark Magic and evil in the world, so who knows.

I think Ron would probably go to work for the Ministry in some capacity, and Hermione would probably have become a writer of textbooks or something along that line (Bathilda Bagshot).

i knew harry was a horcrux, which is funny because i haven't read *any* of the books. i just talk to a lot of people that DO read the books, and i gathered it quite quickly. i was like, "oh he'll end up having to sacrifice himself... like a jesus type thing..." laff.

:) glad you enjoyed.

Yeah, it was weird how they handled it in the books. It was so sad when Harry basically accepted that he was going to have to sacrifice himself for the good of mankind or whatever... so very sad. But then she brought him back to life. Like he had a near-death experience or something. He was in a white room with Dumbledore and he was able to choose to come back to life.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO MOURNS HEDWIG AS MUCH AS I DO. oh. oh. it killed me.

i think the epilogue... well. after reading all of that, you just really NEED it to happen. but it was really jkr writing her own fic.

Hedwig dying killed me inside. That was horrible!

And yeah, as for the epilogue, I heard that she wrote it ten years ago when she first began writing the series, so it's been planned to be like that all along. To me, it makes it kind of sentimental and everything... just feels right.
