do you want to know a secret?

I renewed my paid account. I was getting rather frustrated every time I'd log on to LiveJournal: I was limited to six userpics, couldn't post a poll I thought of posting, etc. So anyway, here we are. All paid up.

I was incredibly disappointed with most of the winners at the Emmys tonight. If you look at my previous post you'll see whom I was ( Read more... )

I'm pissed that Grey's, Sandra Oh, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Project Runway, and Lisa Kudrow didn't win.

However, I wasn't very impressed with the nominees this year.

And Will & Grace deserved a shutout. It used to be an amazing show, but the last few years (and the series finale) have been absolutely terrible. Megan Mullally deserved a win in previous years, but not this year.

I strongly disagree. I think Will & Grace was fantastic from day one until the end. If you didn't enjoy the plot lines or whatever, that's no reason to take it out on the actors that executed the lines flawlessly and genuinely portrayed their characters. I definitely feel that they should have gone home with Emmys for their hard work... it's the last season and they deserve it after making us laugh for all of those years.

That's the thing, though. The actors weren't always consistent. By the end of the series, Jack and Karen had become parodies of themselves (which is strange, because they were parodies to begin with). If the material gets bad, it sometimes takes the actor telling the creative team that they either need to fix it or they'll walk. All four of the actors had enough pull halfway through the series that they could have easily gotten things fixed. But they just went with it. And the show went from hilarious and magical to a guest-star fest with lame one-liners and Jack and Karen chewing the scenery (and each other). You don't give actors an Emmy for previous work or cumulative work. You give them an Emmy for having an outstanding year. None of them provided a body of work this year that stood up against the other nominees. Part of that is their own fault, and part of that can be blamed on various other factors. Really, the only actor on the series that came close to being consistent was Eric McCormack, but the writers hardly ever ( ... )
