Time for everyone to get angry.audio_addictJuly 15 2006, 18:03:46 UTC
This is what it sounds like to me.
It sounds like you're baisedly trying to rationalize what Israel did. In no way do I agree with what the Palestinians did. But you can't say that what Israel did was ok. "It was a strategic Airstrike" It was a civilian airport.

there is none, i agree. but the situation is just *that* sticky. i'm a bleeding left-wing supporter. but i do think that the original abduction of two israeli soldiers back on wednesday was uncalled for. i also believe that the media is biased when it comes to showing footage, because we've had terrible losses since it began, and basically, we're about to get bombed to hell by iran, which is not cool

A civilian airport that the terrorists operate out of. If the runways were not destroyed, Hezbollah would be able to carry out even more airstrikes against civilian cities in northern Israel. So yes, it was a strategic airstrike.
Nothing, absolutely nothing justifies murdering civilians and hitting non-military targets. Israel is a big fish in a little pond--undeniably the strongest governmental military power in that region, terrorists or no terrorists. And I'm sorry, but I don't think that every time something horrible like this happens that Israel gets to bomb hell out of everyone around them. In the nation's entire history, they have consistently skipped right over diplomacy and gone with brute force.
Hezbollah did something horrible, but you know what? Some nation has to act bigger than terrorism. I would think that, since Israel is backed with a great deal of American money and also has that military force, not to mention moral justification, they could take on a more proactive role.
But who shot the first one? Violence begets violence, and now everything is worse.
I am not going to argue with you. However, no one did the right thing here. I think that what Hezbollah did was inexcusable, but I also think that what Israel did in response was irresponsible. I understand wanting to take a strike at Hezbollah and Hamas for any silly reason that comes up, I really do, but I simply wish there was some other way to go about it. I don't think I am being overly idealistic here, and this is simply because right now, no one wins. Further, no one is going to make any kind of positive change for a very long time if it escalates. There must be a better way.
What I find most interesting (or distressing) about this is that the "war on terror" foreign policy has finally come around to bite the US in the ass. By not being able to take a strong stance towards ceasefire on terrorists, we are potentially letting a fledgling conflict escalate. Just an interesting thought.
I think you misunderstood me... I don't want Israel to occupy southern Lebanon, I was just commenting that to me, it looks like it might happen.
And yes, I probably am a bit too pro-Israel. Heh, I can't help it sometimes. Over here it feels like everyone is against Israel except for the U.S. government so I'm constantly on the defense.

There is no excuse for either groups actions.

Sorry if I made you angry. Two words: this sucks.

and a few words for you: there is no such thing as war on terrorism. terrorism is not a country with an army, and you can't go to war with it.

just remember, the lebanese government is absolutely meaningless.. they don't even support this whole attack. which is what makes it even stickier.
