It had been a while in coming, but finally Itachi felt he had the team members he needed to make a run out to the nearest city for supplies. They had an old pick-up truck, filled with gas from the stockpile. Each of his team members was fully outfitted with weapons, and the truck also contained a large kit with water, protein bars and a first aid ( Read more... )

Feldt shook her head. After learning how to pilot a transport shuttle, the truck's controls had been surprisingly easy to learn; a few circles around the compound to figure out the gears and reaction time, and she felt fairly confident. Confident enough, anyway. She didn't know how much use she'd be with the gun at her hip; technically she had a bit of firearm training for emergencies, but she was also used to being a non-combatant, with just enough know-how to take over the mostly automated gunning system of the Ptolemaios if push came to shove and every other member of the bridge crew was out of commission.

She had a map and a route, though, and that was what she needed for this role. "I understand," she answered, buckling the seatbelt of the driver's seat for at least an illusion of safety.

Sasuke grumbled something that was along the lines of I bet I could if I tried, but it was just for the sake of defending himself - he wasn't about to start up a fight over anything that stupid, and not right after he'd agreed to behave himself for Itachi. (To be honest, he doubted he could drive it, anyway.) Besides, he liked the sound of taking watch on the roof; it was important and he didn't have to be cramped up with strangers or trapped inside the stupid vehicle.

"Yeah, sure," he sighed, just so that nobody started jumping down his throat for being difficult. He gave a huff and a pointed look at Feldt. "You better be a careful driver, or I'm going to run out of chakra from holding on."

But for all his grouching and scowling and being a brat, he sat dutifully at his post without any reluctance or another complaint and waited patiently. Missions were things he could definitely handle.

Itachi waited for everyone to take their places and then jumped up into the back of the truck. He gestured to Feldt, where she could see him in the rear-view mirror.

"Let's go," he called, setting his feet in preparation for the vehicle's motion. It would take them some time to get to the next town, and he settled himself to watch their rear for approaching zombies, though he expected the monsters wouldn't be able to catch up with the vehicle.
