I saw Ben Lee perform that song on Conan and it was adorable. He had a whole gaggle of people behind covered in flowers doing the "nanas" and it was so cute.

I just read some reviews of Ben's new CD at metacritic.com, and found them rather enlightening: the things people didn't like about the CD are just what critics didn't like about Underneath. They say it's dated and boring. Which explains why I loved it instantly, really ;)

I knew you'd like it! Yuki's like Nicholas Sparks with uniformly depressing endings. I love him with the burning fire of a thousand suns. (And Shuichi's name, is, well. Right there. It's actually one of the more common anime names, but I still can't spell it without looking it up. Yuki's name means 'courage,' which you'll find is quite fitting.)

We'll have to set up an exchange for the next two discs. (Or, and if you haven't seen them already, there are 'liner notes' that explain some of the weirder cultural things.)

Yuki's name means 'courage,' which you'll find is quite fitting

is that on the DVD? because 'yuki' actually means 'snow', while 'yuuki' is 'courage'. I checked my kanji dictionary with the section in the OVA where Yuki is at a book-signing, he signs the symbol for 'snow' there, and in the manga (v.4, pg 77) where Shuichi is screaming his name through the door, the hiragana reads 'yuki', not 'yuuki'.

I can understand how someone hearing Shuichi's constant cries of 'Yuuuuuuukiiii' would confuse the two, but surely you'd think an official English release could at least get the main characters' names right.

I'm not sure, then (I didn't know about Yuuki, I've just seen 'Yuki' as courage but don't know Japanese for shit). I think it's actually Yuki not Yuuki and I'm wrong, then. Transliterators sometimes simplify the names but if the hiragana says 'yuki' then I'm probably wrong. XD

*chuckles* it's a minefield for the uninitiated ne? i've only studied japanese intermittently, but thankfully still have the textbooks and dictionaries: when in doubt, look it up! ^_^

omg Gravi! there aren't words to express my adoration for this utterly crazy series. Shuichi and Yuki are just too dysfunctionally cute for words, although personally my favourite characters are Ryuichi (toy-rabbit-touting rock god) and K (magnum-happy manager).

i doubt it'll ever be released on DVD down here unfortunately; fansubs save my life again ^_^

if you can deal with the big eyes and right to left reading direction, I can recommend the manga as well. not quite as well structured as the anime, but damned hilarious all the same.

I absolutely second that too dysfunctionally cute for words assessment, but I do worry about poor Shuichi. At least in the episodes I've seen so far, Yuki is really mean to him :(

(I must admit, though, the last episode I saw was number six. It left off with Yuki about to head out to kick some Ask ass, which should be enjoyable and perhaps lead to many mushy declarations of mushy love. Hooray!)

I'm really thinking about trying out the Gravitation manga--I deal with Hebrew every day at work, so am relatively used to the right-to-left reading action. I'd love to read a more involved version of the story. (LOL. Do you think they'll publish a novelization?)

the manga is hilarious, and it does explain a few things that may seem a bit random in the series. they did change a fair bit for the anime; personally I think it worked out for the better, but that may just be my opinion. translation's a little dodgy in places, but Shuichi more than makes up for it ^_^

Do you think they'll publish a novelization

If you think Yuki's too nasty to Schu-chan in the anime, the manga is probably not for you. I tell you, Fruits Basket. They have the first volume half-price at Gamestop now and everything.
