So apparently the hours I worked during a holiday don't count towards the 40 hours before I make over time- so working 60 hours that week wasn't that worth it, and I should have just worked extra hours during a normal week- seriously, why should I bother to work hard to help them out if they're going to nickel and dime me like that.

that's illegal in CT Tucker. Any hours past 40 in a work week is automatically OT.

Unless of course you were already paid OT for the hours worked on a holiday. Where I work I get paid OT for holidays and for extra days. If I work an extra day on a Sunday (the beginning of the week) I get OT for it but it doesn't count against my 40 regular hours, because I was already paid OT for it.

I would not get paid extra OT if I picked up an extra day at the end of the week (just the normal OT), I would not make extra OT if a holiday fell on my normal OT day (already getting OT).

If you were paid straight pay on the holiday you have them. If they paid you OT to work the holiday then you don't get OT for a day at the end of the week in addition to the OT they already paid you. Basically, if they paid you more than 40 hours at straight pay then they owe you OT. If you got 40 hours regular and everything else was OT (holiday included) then it's a pain but legal.

I get OT to work the holidays plus 8 hours of my base pay for the holiday (12 hours gets paid 26). If the holiday comes at the beginning of the week, I'm golden. If it comes ( ... )

I work in CT- and yeah, they're saying that because I got holiday pay for it, it doesn't count towards the 40 even if it was earlier in the week. I still think it's stupid, because it means I shouldn't work as hard during holiday weeks.

I called the day I typed this- they said that per the law, it didn't matter, because I got paid a better rate than my normal pay, even if it was earlier in the week.

You should definitely speak to your payroll or HR department. By CT law:
"After 40 hours of actual work in the same work week. It is calculated at one and one-half times the employee's regular rate of pay."

You should therefore be paid at least 1 1/2 times your normal wage for every hour actually worked over 40.

If your payroll/HR people refuse to hear it, warn them that you'll be speaking to the labor board and if they won't reconsider, then actually follow through and speak to the labor board.
