While that's got to be frustrating for you, I don't think I blame the rep as much as other people do. SS numbers have an algorithm to them afterall. Maybe your number is messed up somehow or maybe he misread the algorithm, but keeping an eye out for discrepancies like that is a form of protection against identity theft.

The algorithim of the ssn has nothing to do with gender, also, same ssn since birth before the legal name change *hug*

He's full of shit.
The first 3 numbers tell what state you were born in, or first applied for a SSN.
The second 2 numbers are there to break the first 3 into useable group sizes.
The last 4 are the serial number.

No gender ID. And in fact there can be no gender ID encoded in it because it would be against the law to disclose medical information, such as gender reassignment surgery.
