Song: "No Surprises" (Radiohead)

I'm actually kind of in shock at how wonderfully professional this one sounds. The recording still sounds amateur, but I'm highly pleased with the arrangement.

This song wasn't even on my list of planned covers until Thursday morning. I was just playing around and this just kind of flowed out, with really only a few hours of hard effort. ( ( Read more... )

It's very pretty! You have a lovely voice, and it sounds stronger and more confident than it has in your earlier works.

Very, very pretty. And it did come out sounding quite professional, it all blends so very nicely. (I didn't quite realise the synth was even there until I listened for it, which, in my book, is a good thing.)

And I'm kinda curious (as well as extremely clueless) about in which order you do this kind of recording...?

Generally, I'll record the piano first, then record the vocals so they match. In this case, I recorded the piano, then the percussion, then the vocals, and finally the synth towards the end. Everything is on its own separate track because I'm not very good at the Alex Wong-type of multitasking required for playing and singing at the same time.

Wow, so after listening to this and thinking it sounds familiar, I went to work and heard the original for what I now realise what must be about the 8000th time or something. And I absolutely detest the original for some reason, but your version was so beautiful it actually gave me a new appreciation for the song!
Your version was so much better than the original in my humble opinion!
