YOU'RE PLAYING IT. :D The first hour or two I wasn't quite into it, but was pretty much head over heels by the time I met Alistair. So if your experience is anything like mine, it will be seriously difficult to turn the game off.
The "pup" thing actually made me laugh, because I had initially rolled as a male before switching to a female, and I was expecting a different term of endearment to be used. It's kind of amusing watching everyone try to steer clear of using any names for the PC, and occasionally there will be cases where the character will be referred to as "sir" even if you're female.
I totally made a ginger Cousland too. She has pretty eyeshadow and purple lipstick, because makeup is vital in the midst of battle, you know?
I bought it on release day! I mean, I had it pre-ordered and everything! My big problem was NaNo, and then getting used to new job, and then not wanting to start before the holidays because I really didn't want to spend all of Christmas with the family pining for Dragon Age, you know?
In Neverwinter Nights, they got around the problem by having the PC's name appear in text but never be spoken. It worked pretty well.
Makeup is TOTALLY vital. I have screaming crimson red lipstick. Also because I am a rogue I am all like "persuasion :D :D :D"
I've had Dragon Age for like two months now, and I just haven't had the urge to plunge in. I can't explain it; I just feel like it'll be so daunting, that I need a clear amount of free time to power through it.
Similarly, I had Shin Megumi Tensei for PS2 for like two months from GameFly, and I only played it for about five hours.
On the plus side though, I used all my holiday money on a PSP, and I'm amazed at how much I'm enjoying Crisis Core so far. Also, the graphics for a handheld system really are incredible. I also have War of the Lions, but because I've beaten the original about 10 times, I'll wait until I get through Crisis Core.
Crisis Core is way more fun than I thought it would be. Zack is totally adorkable. And I loved War of the Lions for fucking ever.
I pre-ordered DA:O but factors like NaNoWriMo and new job kept me from jumping in. I'm currently only dipping my toes cautiously, because I fear that once I'm hooked, I"m fucking done, goodbye sleep.
Arl Howe is voiced by Tim Curry. That might have something to do with your instinctive reaction to him since he's famous for playing the villain. Although he does have a sexy, sexy voice...
