Kain is a perfect tragic figure, but at some point he either has to change, or the narrative needs to move beyond him. Cecil and Rosa will have to deal with him as a unit at some point if he does not realize that life is not about obsession with proving that he can withstand anything. I say if the man does not resolve his daddy issues then he is a perfect successor to Gafgarion and he needs to either win or lose based on his skills versus a Paladin and a White Mage.
The idea behind Every Light is for him to change and grow into himself. I mean, as much as I love kicking Kain in the head repeatedly and often, I do have a *point* to this story beyond gratuitous angst :)
Oh, yes, this has been planned out for years :) It's a long, hard road to get there, but he does make peace with himself and his deeds, and gets nice things eventually.

I know he's glad of that. After all, as good a villain as he might be, Kain is a hero. Do you know where it ends?
