I started out yesterday wary, because we had a storm coming in, but I didn't have a headache yet so I got up and went to work. By 9:30, I had a really spectacular case of migraine aura - when I get one, it manifests as the same kind of eye-dazzle you get when you look at a bright light, except without having looked at said light. I'm almost afraid to ask. What do you need FMLA paperwork for? Are you doing OK? Or are your folks alright?

Yeah, I'm fine, folks are fine. Basically, work changed the attendance policy - previously it said "a repeated pattern of absences may be a problem" and now it says "3 absences in 90 days is a problem." I get migraines from weather shifts, on an unreliable schedule (I had a monster of one on Wednesday.) So, I had to go get paperwork filled out that said I have an intermittent condition, so I don't get in trouble.

In the process I had a lengthy discussion with my primary care doc - apparently the birth control I'm on is contraindicated if one has migraines with aura (mine don't always have aura, about one in five) so now I get to consider other options for that. Ugh.

Yeah, migraines with aura are a risk factor for stroke, especially when combined with OCP. You may consider a baby aspirin (81mg) every day to limit your risk. Don't do it if you have heartburn problems, though.

Yeah. I've just got to figure out if I want to do that approach or go with Mirena IUD instead, which would at least save me the hassle of fighting with insurance every damn month about OCP, but of course has its own potential downsides. So. *shrug*
