summer is supposed to be my GOOD brain time.

Today has been--well, the past month has been--full of generalized fussing and anxiety. I am perpetually convinced that all manner of terrible things are going to happen, and my brain is disinterested in any of the perfectly logical reasons that those things are *not* going to happen. It has not been fun. And thus I have not been updating. Mreh ( Read more... )

like i need another timesink, video games own my soul, life should be easier, fussy mcfussypants, weight, feeling like a dipshit

Nier is an interesting game. Can't talk about the plot, because it has one and you'll want to see it, but the music is fantastic. Wonderfully atmospheric, and the setting is, while disturbing as all post-ap stuff is, reasonably well thought-out. It's also, weirdly, a sequel to Drakengard's hidden ending (where the dragon gets blown up over Tokyo by F-16 jets). A chap calling himself The Dark Id did a LP of the game, which you can probably dig up on lparchive.org, which, while spoiling the hell out of the game, was good enough to get me to buy the thing.

On the other hand, I hear Tierkreis disappointed fans of Suikoden fairly dramatically, but I've heard the odd voice of support as well.

I won't lie, I primarily bought Nier on the strength of "Liam O'Brien voicing a bitchy snarky grimoire that yells at you when you're doing it wrong," because I am easy. (Well, that and several people I trust said they were really enjoying it.) I am also aware of what happens when you get the last ending. XD

A lot of my friends seem to have enjoyed Tierkreis and I've heard great things about some of the female characters, plus I'm way better at playing handheld games these days. (Have I mentioned that a feature of the PS4 that I am dying to have is the one where you can put the console in sleep mode like you would a handheld? Because oh my God I want that like fucking burning. That and being able to remote play on my Vita if paladin wants the TV for something.)

....of course I still have to play Suikoden 3-5, but. We'll see. *stares forlornly at backlog*

I've poked a little at 3, 4 looks stone cold bad, and 5 appears to have some appeal.

Yeah, I have heard a lot of bad things about IV. But I am going to try it for myself, because...I found it for $8 at GameStop and it's worth the investigation. XD

Meanwhile I am definitely enjoying the Moogle U project. It's fun to play all the FFs in order and watch them evolve. Though I anticipate a moderately slow slog from now until I get to FF9 *_*

Yeah, weight loss is so slow, which is why I want to punch people who say 'weight loss is easy, just eat less, fatty!'. I've been eating less for almost a year, but because of where I started, I'm still in the fatty category.

For me it's (in terms of my perception) even slower, because I am emphatically not measuring with a scale. (Maybe I should; the little calorie-counting numbers are pretty motivating for me, but I fear a bad spiral if I give myself too many numbers to obsess over.) So it's all subjective measurement by how my clothes fit, and that's going to take a little bit longer than being able to see things on a scale.

Good luck on your efforts. ♥

a teensy bit of advice on the wedding stuff... even if you do try to plan the best you can to avoid a snafu, Murphy finds a way. A few examples ( ... )

I am having a wedding coordinator for just these sorts of things. XD That's one of the terrifying checks that went out the door recently.

I know I can't control everything, but I'm trying to get as many things as I can wrapped up early so that I have less to fuss over. We'll see if that works out!
