Summary: A most unfortunate accident leads to a most unlikely dinner date.

Oh god, I’m so late!” Doldoni exclaimed to no one as he rushed down the hallway. He’d lost track of time as he’d painted in the art room after school, and now he had twenty minutes to get to the dance studio before his instructor ripped out his entrails in front of the other students!

“Gotta clean, gotta clean, gotta clean!” he repeated to himself as he carried a jar full of murky gray water and several used paint brushes. He’d go to the janitor’s closet, rinse these babies out, and then rush back to the art room to tidy that up. Even though his art teacher may be more forgiving of Doldoni’s messes, he didn’t want to make a bad impression on her. It would be completely ungentlemanly and not at all like a Del Socacchio! Then he’d run like the wind to his next engagement and with the blessing of god, he’d get there in time. With luck. A lot of it.

But things seemed to be going his way; the hallways were completely empty so he was making good time. He began to whistles a little as his natural exuberance started to shine through.

She ended up having to stay after school today since her teacher thought that coming in five minutes late wasn't acceptable. It wasn't her fault she had to go to the bathroom just as school was starting. She hurried, that was the important part.

Turning the corner, Chirucci wasn't paying attention to anything but a piece of fuzz on the front of her blouse. There was no need to watch where she was going when the hallways had already been cleared of students some time ago. When she finally got the fuzz off and onto the floor, she ended up looking straight into the body of someone carrying a jar of something she didn't have time to analyze.

"Ooooph," she said. Her hands tried to stop the inevitable, but they didn't quite get out in front of her fast enough so her face ran into the body of this person. "Whoot the well?"

It was entirely his fault; Doldoni hadn't been looking where he’d been going. His eyes had been pinned on a wall clock above a set of lockers as he’d tried to gauge how much time he could spend at the janitor’s closet.

Then he’d rounded that ill-fated corner and ran smack into someone! Though they were lighter and shorter than him, they had knocked him down as well since he’d been in mid-stride. The wet jar and its contents slipped from his hands and dumped its contents on his poor victim with a loud *splash*!

“Lo siento, senorita!” he said in a rush when he saw that he’d knocked over a raven-haired female student. She didn't look too happy with the situation.

“I’m so sorry, miss! Are you all right?”

Unknotting his school necktie he whipped it off his neck and offered it to her to wipe off the dirty water and paint now gracing her soggy blouse. Oh, how his ancestors must be rolling in their graves at his ungraceful stumble!

Chirucci pushed herself back away from the guy when she heard him speak in something that wasn't English. She wanted to yell at him right then and there, but there was something else that grabbed her immediate attention. Looking down, she saw that the jar of something was all over her front and soaking through her shirt and onto her skin. It was disgusting.

"Yeah, but you should watch where you're going! What the hell is this crap?" she asked as she violently took the tie he offered her to try and dab out something even though it wasn't going to be a lot. She didn't bother looking at him as she looked at her shirt after the first couple of dabs. She could feel some of the liquid roll down her front and stop when it hit the waistband of her skirt. "Ugh."

“My sincerest apologies, senorita!” he told her as she watched her uselessly wipe at her shirt with his necktie. “This clumsy oaf has no excuses!”

Feeling unbelievably bad about the entire ordeal, he rose from his undignified sprawl and offered her a hand up.

“The water was used to soak my dirty paintbrushes, so I think you need to wash your garment right away. If you cannot get the paint stains out, I will gladly pay for a new shirt! I am not hard to find; just ask for Doldoni Alessandro Del Socacchio of the Espada! Someone will surely point you out in the right direction!”

Though he’d offered to repay her for the damages done, he still felt like he hadn't done enough.

“Are you free for this afternoon, Bonita? Perhaps I may make amends for my horrible ineptness by taking you out for a meal? Choose any restaurant you want, and I will happily foot the bill!”

Her hand held the tie out in front of her. She was angry at having to get splattered with dirty paintbrushes and she was upset that her clothes were basically ruined because there was no way she was going to get to wash them anywhere in vicinity of immediately and right away, but what made her push the tie into the big man was his mention of the group Espada. Of course she had to run into this guy. Up until now she didn't think he was half bad, or maybe three quarters bad because the paint was going to stain, but now he was pretty much evil. This guy, Doldoni Alessan-something-something, did this on purpose. No way was she going to ever think about enjoying a meal with him.

"No," she said, as she let go of the tie after she realized she couldn't do much to him by just trying to push him. "First, how the hell am I supposed to wash my clothes? Second, why would I want to eat with an Espada after you purposefully dumped the paint on me? Do you want to dump food in my lap too?"

"Ah, of course not!" Doldoni yelled more in shock than any actual anger. The thought of a Del Soccachio man intentionally spilling anything on a lady's lap was preposterous!

"This was a complete accident, Bonita, I swear by my family's honour! It would mean incalculably much to me if you allowed this poor wretch to rectify the misfortune he so clumsily befell on you!"

Grabbing his dirty tie from mid-air, he absentmindedly stuffed it into his pocket, unmindful of the dirty water he undoubtedly just smeared on his wallet and house keys.

"If you do not wish to take a meal with me today, would it be better if we had it at some other time? Or if you wish, we could skip the food entirely, and I will buy you a replacement shirt, and any other clothes you desire, immediately!"

He looked at her, earnestly wishing to make amends, no matter what it took. Even though he was an Espada, and it was not in the club members' nature to apologize much, he was a Del Soccachio and an honourable man first and foremost. He could not let this situation remain unresolved, especially when such a beautiful and fiery woman was involved.

"Do you talk that way all the time?" she asked as she started focusing on the over the top speech. She was pretty sure not all the Espada sounded like they were above everyone by speech alone. In fact, this guy wouldn't be that bad if he would just get to the point instead of trying to have long soliloquies. It would be better if he just said he was sorry and he'd like to buy her dinner as an apology. That was simple. That was what Chirucci responded to. "Or is this just for the public?"

If someone was with her, they could definitely accuse her of stalling and in a way she was. It wasn't every day she was offered a free meal by an Espada in order to apologize. That was basically unheard of. All Espada hated those they thought were under them. But not this guy. Why? Was he really telling the truth?

Would he really buy her any clothes she desired?

No, that wasn't something she should think about. What would Alturo say? Would he even talk to her after he found out? But she wasn't really thinking about it seriously, nope.

"If you promise not to tell anyone about it, then maybe I can be persuaded to eat with you," she shrugged, the clothes still on her mind.

“Hah, my apologies, Bonita,” he said ruefully as he rubbed his neck in embarrassment. “I have a tendency to let my mouth run. But!” Doldoni said happily, “if my silence is what it takes to get you to eat with me, then you have it!”

Looking at her, he realized he still didn’t know her name.

“Uh, before we go, may I know what the lady calls herself?” he asked as he grinned at her. “And also where and when she’d like to eat out with me? As friends only, of course!”

He’d added the last part to make sure she didn’t think he was forcing a date on her, oh no. Though that was not to say that the girl didn’t intrigue him in a way; most other females in the school fell head-over-heels for him, partly because of his Espada membership, but Doldoni liked to think it was also because of his debonair charm. Of course this one looked like she wasn’t the type to be easily impressed. He found himself looking forward to the challenge.

"Heh, I don't want you to be silent, I just want you to talk as if you were still in high school, not some kind of play. It's over the top," she said, hoping he wasn't going to stay silent if they ever spent time over food. She'd take him talking like that more over silence any day. "But if you must, then don't be surprised if you get a punch in the arm. Or two.

"And my name is Chirucci." She left it at that even though she wanted to tell him to lay off the friends talk. A Privaron wasn't supposed to be friends with an Espada or take anything from them. That meant she also had to keep her mouth shut, but she was sure there were some people would would get a kick out of this and the guy could also be useful. He could be her spy of sorts...

Putting those thought off to the side, Chirucci thought about where they could go to eat. She'd say now, but she didn't feel like walking around in a dirty shirt and it'd probably be best to wait anyway. "Next Tuesday and I don't care where it is as long as it isn't a burger joint. The bill should be bigger than ten bucks since you spilled something on me."

“As the lady wishes,” Doldoni bowed theatrically in jest of her words. He was large for his age and could take a punch or two if it meant he could keep on amusing her. “And may I say what a lovely name you have, Miss Chirucci?”

He winked at her as he straightened from his position and then smiled.

“Next Tuesday it is! Since discretion is so paramount to you, what if you meet me outside my apartment at around 6:30 p.m.? We can walk to the restaurant and enjoy the beautiful night air!"

"Yeah, I guess." She's glad the hallways aren't full of students. Even though she's can be a bit loud, she's never been embarrassed by it. That bow is what she would be embarrassed by. Chirucci hopes he forgets to do that the next time they see each other. If he does, she might have to find a way to ditch him in the restaurant.

"At 6:30," she repeats, making sure she doesn't forget this appointment. It's a free meal. Walking with him in the beautiful night air will be worth it. She keeps telling herself that, but it doesn't make her forget the fact that she'll have to be seen out in public with him. But that doesn't matter right at this moment since she's still standing in a dirty, and still wet, shirt. It's time to go home.

"I'll see you then," Chirucci starts taking a few steps away from Doldoni, "And if you spill on me again, you're going to owe me more than a dinner."
