Day 34 of 40: Metrorail and more DB

Mar 25, 2010 22:31

I rode the MetroRail for the first time today! The MetroRail is Austin's commuter train that has just opened. Austin is famous for its clogged highways, and unfortunately this commuter train has been far behind schedule, but one line did finally open, the red line. What I did not know until recently is that the nearest train stop is only 10 ( Read more... )

Yeah, I saw it was 2 cars on a news type show (not a main channel or anything; I think it was something on HBO at Tiff and Cliff's), and I was like, "Do WHAT?" *L* It reminded me of Paris and London toooo!! See, THIS is what we need to get me started on with learning subway/train systems though! Over in Paris and London, it was just like, "Bwuh????????," for my brain. Info overload!! *L*

DB stuff on iTunes????!! How awesome! But you can't just buy it? That sucks!! D: !!! When I get money again, I'll have to look into that! I was thinking earlier today, actually, how cool it would be to have audio to listen to in my car of DB's shows, but... having just audio would be pointless. *L*

Yeah, when I was on it, I was like, "Michelle would be such a pro at riding this after having handled London and Paris!!" LOL I think you did admirably with all that information. :) By the way, after talking so much about 'culture shock' before going, do you think you experienced culture shock? What was your evaluation?

One reason why it might be cool to have the audiobook. :) I mean, all three audiobooks are still only about 1 1/2 hours, but it's still something.

Something you may find funny: You know in Paris they would charge ~4 euro for an Orangina? I just got 1-liter Orangina for $1.99 at Randall's...

*LOL* Yeah, really! "Wow, only one line?! I can do THIS!" ^^ ... I'm not sure if I went through culture shock or not, really. I might have the wrong idea about culture shock. In my head, it's something obvious and like the person would just be so overloaded with info and it looked obvious. I think I experienced a bit of environment shock due to how everything was different: architecture, transportation, language, behavior, etc. Unless culture and environment shock are similar. I think I'd need to know the accurate definitions before I could decide. I went through SOMEthing though, but it was in a good way. :)

Heh, that price sounds about right. :) Since the Euro is almost twice as much as it is here, that would come out ABOUT even. :) But you can get Orangina here?!?! I want one! I like Fanta better, but oh, how I want stuff from Paris and London! *L*

Hmmm, I think you may need to reexamine your math. Even if the euro was worth almost twice as much as a dollar (which is what I assume you are saying), that would make the Orangina EVEN more expensive in Europe, if, suppose I paid 4 euro there and 4 euro here, so I don't think it's about even ( ... )

OMG! That would totally remind me of London.

I remember walking by one of the Dart lines in down town Dallas after my trip from London when I heard the train announce where it was. It was the Green Line which made me switch my brain to the District Line in London and I started quote the London Tube announcements.

"Mind the gap between the train and the platform."

That is one thing I miss about London is the tube.

Hey Lacey! Yeah! :) It may be a far cry from the Underground, but it is something! LOL yeah, that makes sense! I've never been on any of the Dart lines! I actually looked for any kind of sign at the edge of platform to see if it said "Mind the gap" but it didn't. If there was a warning I'm not sure what it said.

I hope there are other things you miss about London too? The tube IS awesome, though. I would love to live in a city that has that.
