Mix: Heaven's Unbroken Prodigal Son

Mar 26, 2011 08:16

This fanmix is heavily tied into the story of Eddie Jones as presented in my modern au. Many of the songs address faith, prayer, death, love lost and gained, second chances and the like. Lots of belly-gazing, so to speak, but sometimes life makes you do that.

Listing and mix below )

music, fandom: the pacific, character: eddie jones, modern au, section: wandering minstrel, soundtrack, art: fanmix

Oh my gosh, (claps hands and toes) This is the sound of my childhood!

It just took me right back to family gatherings out on the farm when the sun had set and the smoke sort of hazed the kitchen ceiling, beer bottles littering the tables and counters and Grandpa would start clapping his big old spoons on his knee and start singing and then Grandma would reach back and send one of the cousins running for her violin and just..... the feeling of everyone slowing bringing in their own instruments and singing or stomping and clapping while all us grandkids crowded on laps.

That was homey and perfect and I loved the flow. <3 I.... think I love Eddie and the modern au even more now that I associate this song with both him and the boarding house.

I am glad you like it. There are actually two more that form the basis for my ideas about Eddie as a character in my head, they are Part I Part II.

One thing I love about music is how songs can cause such sense memories in all of us. For me, my childhood is full of Classic Rock and the Temptations, so whenever I hear songs by Billy Joel or, like, "My Girl" I'm taken back to watching all the males in my family, beer cans waving and drunk off their asses, singing along in the backyard during the Fourth of July bbq at.

I'm downloading them now, thanks!

And yes, yes, I know what you mean. My parents had one particular tape they'd play on long car trips. When I was a teenager, we'd long since lost the tapes and CDs were the big thing so you couldn't even find them anymore. I had to dig all the songs up one by one from memory but oh man, the way my family reacted when I slipped that burnt CD in during one last family trip -- it was liking being back in time.

I was listening to this mix last night and the album art for Distant Shore (if memory serves) was up, and Michael asked me why I was listening ti Jamie Oliver... er

Alas, poor Dierks Bentely does suffer the curly-poofy white boy fro with the sort of dopey look on his face. And he does look like Jamie Oliver, sort of, in the face.

I adore Train's version of Umbrella (which to be honest is a song I just love in general) and my love for everything Gangstagrass IS cannot be rendered properly in words.

But CLEARLY your mind is telling you to write Hillbilly Jones. Possibly becoming, like, a youtube star, or possibly playing in various divebars of the world, catching a Marine Captain's Eye, or just Eddie Jones, the awesome guy who just also happens to teach music theroy, history, and studies at the local university.

Yeah, Umbrella is totally a guilty pleasure of mine. And, oh God, Gangstagrass. I think I've found the one thing that offends Michael even more than Aussie hip-hop, LOL. I love what I've heard so far though, so he's just gonna have to deal.

NO. NO. DON'T ENCOURAGE THIS. I'm starting to think, 'hey, I should try my hand at Eddie or Andy one day', but at the same time, I'm convinced they're completely beyond my capabilities. That said, the idea of Eddie being a yt star and catching the eye of a specific someone...

Gangstagrass I honestly think represents what is eventually going to happen in country music. So many good old boys I grew up with were huge rap and country fans. It's a music fusion that shouldn't work, but considering the roots of jazz, blues, rock & roll, bluegrass, and country, okay, so basically the roots of all American music, it's the same beats and story-telling aspect ( ... )
