(Hi, can you tell I've nothing to do but be on LJ all day? You must be sick of me. And I know this is Skew's prompt. D8 I'M SORRY, SHAN)

DUDE OF DISTINCTION. I've never heard of that before and now it's my favourite thing.

HANK WILLIAMS. LOL, what are you doing in my brain. I was listening to him all yesterday.

But, oh, I loved Kitty's and Eddie's interaction in this. Every single line <3333

“Speaking of, how’s that new officer working for you? Haldane?”

Eddie paused for a moment before answering.

I grinned. Hard. 8)))

Hey, when I worked in an office, and had my own little magical cubicle land, I had days where I was pretty much on LJ day. And Nat, hush, I'd never get sick of you.

Dude of Distinction sounds so much better than Man of Honor.

There's a whole story dedicated to Kitty and Eddie in the 'verse, and I really do enjoy writing them, so I pretty much glee-faced so hard when Skew asked for that prompt.

And poor Eddie, he knows he can't tell Kitty his true feelings about Haldane over a government line, but that's what visits home are for.

As have I. It being stuck in my head is why it got in this fic.

This was such a lovely thing to wake up to in the morning!

I adore your modern AU, and I love that my vague little prompt ended up growing into this, which is just made of charm. I'm not sure what image I'm most amused by: Harry and two middle-aged women surrounded by wedding planning junk or Kitty and Eddie's inappropriate juvenile karaoke. Your interpretations of all the characters and the ways they all intersect are brilliant, and I particularly enjoy what a down-to-earth, practical kind of broad your Kitty is.

I love the concept of a Dude of Distinction, too! I'm totally using that somewhere - I expect I will be invited to a few same-sex weddings in my lifetime, and I have wondered exactly what you do with the best man situation when there's two grooms.

Also, love the little asides to other parts of the 'verse, like Speirs' dogged pursuit of Lipton and Eddie's description of Snafu. (And the 'agree to every one of your sexual whims' line made me laugh a little too much. Oh, Harry, don't act like you don't enjoy it.)

Thank you! I an very glad you enjoyed it.

I have pretty much decided that Harry is the over the top romantic kind and Kitty's the "no, let's NOT release a cage full of doves" type of gal in the modern-au. I've not had much of a chance to write them together, so this prompt really was a joy.

The tech. term is Man of Honor, so the websites tell me, but I think Dude of Distinction sounds snazzier.

I maybe did a bit of jazz-hands when Harry looked up and smiled all gap-toothed at Kitty because Harry is just that awesome. Also his love for the Dude of Distinction title rivals my own.

Eddie and Kitty's relationship was so nice, too.

Thank you for writing it!

Harry really is just awesome and I cannot wait to write him more in the future. He may or may not make a change to the wedding program which takes out the title "Man of Honor" and puts in "Dude of Distinction." He will risk Mother Grogan's wrath for the sake of making Kitty smile.

There is a small ficlet compeltely devoted to Eddie and Kitty being drunk-off-their-asses-singing-country-cousins-bffs that I work on whenever I need a bittersweet laugh.

Thank you for reading!

goddamn, i just keep grinning. so hard. all the time.

i'm really intrigued as to how eddie & snafu got from louisiana to dc (same au, no?). i love the backstory between kitty and eddie and i love kitty's characterization. <3

I aim for laughter more than anything else. :)

The DC crew is more Team Leckie, with Eddie and Snfau sometimes going up there for jobs, but yes, it's the same AU. Basically the whole reason for that goes back to Speirs.

I think it was either Kay or Skew who gave me the idea of Kitty and Eddie as cousins, and I adored said idea. I really want to have more Kitty in all the fic ever, so I'm glad her characterization is enjoyable.
