Each time she lays down in her pod, it feels as if time stops. The only time the minutes fly by are when her eyes are open. Then she is doing and being and more real than even her dreams can make her.
“Echo, are you ready for your treatment?”
“Yes, thank you.”
Time speeds up when she goes for treatments. When she awakens in the chair, her bones and muscles feel aged and older. She asks why that is but they don’t have a good reason. It’s just the treatment, Boyd says. She’d rather be timeless than aging unknowingly.

The moon calls to her. No matter the hour , Leah knows exactly where the moon is at in the sky. She prefers when it is nearing full although it doesn’t matter to her transformation. It is the pull she cares about.
Are you alright? Jacob is beside her, his wet nose on her bare shoulder. She hasn’t bothered to pull on the clothes waitng for her on the Cullens’ porch. There are only the wolves to notice her nakedness.
“Soon. I want to enjoy the moon. Don’t worry, Jacob.”
I always do. A pretty lie she lets him tell.
