I haven't posted either one of these yet so thought I better get them here before I forget about them!

TITLE: Just One of the Weasleys
AUTHOR: lar_laughs
FANDOM: Harry Potter
CHARACTERS: Ginny Weasley, Draco Malfoy
PROMPT: Round 2 at dg_ldws - Love can sometimes be magic. But magic can sometimes... just be an illusion. ~ Javan and 86. Choices at 100_tales
RATING: PG-13
WORD COUNT: 250
Author's Note: This is only the second story I've ever written for this pairing so I'm still finding my bearings but I liked the idea of Ginny hiding Draco in plain sight. I was playing off the illusion part of the quote.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own any part of, nor do I make any money from the Harry Potter franchise. I merely dabble in the shadows of the world of JK Rowling created.

It had been a tough week. As Ginny made her way toward Weasleys’ Wizarding Wheezes, she tried to be enthusiastic about the party tonight. Rose was turning one and all the Weasley family members would be on hand for the celebration. The very last thing she wanted to do was spend time with her family right now.

You look too skinny. Perhaps Quidditch isn’t something a nice girl should be playing. Have you thought about taking your brother up on his offer to work here at the shop?

There was a bang and a puff of smoke erupted from the stones in front of her. She nearly tripped over the man suddenly crouched down, his shirt slashed as if a beast had been set on him. There was no mistaking the platinum hair.

“Malfoy?”

He looked around, his eyes wild. “Where am I?”

“Diagon Alley.”

“They can’t find me.”

Ginny pulled off her cloak, wrapping it around his shoulders. “Who did this to you?”

No matter that he was hurt, his trademark sneer was still the same. “Your poncy boyfriend. He’s been on my trail for over a week.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” she declared roughly, still feeling the emotions from the nasty breakup. But it gave her an idea. She took out her wand. “I know where you can hide. Right in plain sight in the middle of a Weasley party. Do you trust me?”

She didn’t expect him to agree but he nodded his head. “Do it. Hurry.”

TITLE: Away
AUTHOR: lar_laughs
FANDOM: Harry Potter
CHARACTERS: Ginny Weasley, Draco Malfoy
PROMPT: Round 3 at dg_ldws - The Astronomy Tower and 72. Broken at 100_tales
RATING: PG-13
WORD COUNT: 445
Author's Note: With this fic, I think I've started to find my voice for Ginny. With GinnyBigBang looming, I've been trying to find the voice I want to use and this story really spoke to me. I also thought it was the best of my three attempts but I knew I couldn't stay in the running for much longer. My writing doesn't go well with voting. Oh well. I like it and that's all that matters! Although I do hate the ending but I was running out of words. When time permits, perhaps I'll fix it.

It isn’t easy to get up to the Astronomy Tower, what with the tears clouding her eyes, but Ginny succeeds only because of her fierce determination to be AWAY. There is no destination her feet are running to, only carrying her as far away from Michael Corner as she can get. He hates it up here and so she knows he won’t think to follow… if he even decides to come after her at all.

Draco stands with his wand out, as if prepared for the worst, as she bursts into the open. They stare at each other, not sure how to react. Each is here to be alone but neither wants to force the other out. Ginny has no real problem with Malfoy other than the fact that her brother doesn’t like him. She doesn’t hold with family loyalty extending to petty whims. Besides, he doesn’t make fun of the red splotches that the tears have created on her face.

Intead, he is a gentleman and offers up a solution. “You take that side of the room. I’ll take this side. That way we can wallow in our misery separately.”

She laughs, something she hasn’t done much of lately. “I’ve heard shared misery is only half as bad.”

If it is possible, his face blanches whiter. Something she’s said has dealt him a blow but she’s not sure how to make it better. Surely he can’t think her laugh was a mockery of his pleasant suggestion? As she struggles to think how to make it right, he smiles with such sadness in his eyes that her heart breaks a little for him.

“Not this misery. Perhaps if you were… but no. Thank you.”

Suddenly her problems don’t seem quite so horrible as they had before she climbed those eternal stairs. “If you need to talk…” but she lets her words drift off. It’s plain that these demons haunting his eyes can’t be excised by a few kind words as hers could.

“Thank you,” he says again, expressing in two words just how much her offer means.

“A game of exploding snaps to pass the time?” She pulls a set from her bag, always ready with the entertainment when times seem grim.

This time his smile is anything but sad; a twinkle of amusement lighting up his eyes. “You’re on, Weas- Ginerva.”

She can tell that he thinks he’s antagonizing her by bringing up her real name but she likes it. Not many people use it so it’s still something special. As she settles in for an enjoyable afternoon, she pauses to think of how even the worst of circumstances can bring about happy endings.
