The Sun Shines

Last night I watched, for the first time, Danny Boyle's 2007 Science Fiction Epic, 'Sunshine'.
Even if it's obviously paying homage to other SF classics like 2001 A Space Odyssey and Alien, it is a work of art in it's own right and I was totally blown away!

I'm afraid it bored me silly, and I found it scientifically and logically ridiculous. Who the hell would have chosen that bunch of mystical losers to man that flight?

I thought it looked great, but have to agree that the plot, characters and 'science' made no sense whatsoever. If only the person who designed the sets and spaceships had actually been able to influence the script...

It wasn't any worse then the script in 'Alien'. Agreed that it looked great. I thought was fairly easy to follow. Only didn't work out how the Oxygen Garden caught alight and how it wasn't factored into the attitude tilt to fix the shield.

Some of it is very beautiful, but s-l-o-w.

I see, looking back to my original post on the DVD, back in 2008, that I didn't think much of the sound mix quality, either.

I quite enjoyed it too, mostly for how good it looked on the big screen. It must have been reasonably exciting too, as vindolandia went into labour 10 mins from the end.

It was one of Ann's favourite sf movies. I bought her a copy on dvd, but she never got to see it.

Look Mate! That was just my personal opinion of a film I found visually interesting. I know the plot was highly implausible and the science a tad dodgy but I thought it had some charm all the same!

Maybe you should read some professional reviews next time. :0|
