20/50 Set in Darkness by Ian Rankin

This isn't my usual choice of book, but we have been invited to the Borders Book Festival in a couple of weeks and have been bought tickets to a talk and reading by Ian Rankin, so I though I should do my homework!  I didn't *love* the book, but there were some excellent characters and a clever plot but by far ( Read more... )

I like Iain Rankin. He's a nice guy. And you're right - the best thing about his books is Edimburgh. I love how he captures the essence of the city, from the middle class snobbery of Morningside to the student colonisation of Marchmont to the really seedy underworld when you scratch the surface.
Did you ever see Iain Rankin's three-part documentary on evil? That was great.
