So good things are happening, lots of them, actually. However, lj is phobic to good news. So, I need your advice. (you = you, my friends, who only read this.) I just got more funding from my dpt (woohoo! I may actually end up with almost twice what I'm technically allowed. jesus christ I love my prof. also, I'm glad he uses his powers for good ( Read more... )

My vote? Probably take the money and run.

Do you really want to play mommy to a bunch of 5th and 6th graders for 6 weeks of your summer with only 1 day off per session and one day in between sessions anyway? Of course, I don't know how much they're paying you... If you really think that the extra 3 weeks will do awesome things for you and your research, definitely take it. Even if you don't want to spend your own money to go to Paris, they *are* paying you to go to England. As to whether or not it'll look bad to CTY... are you actually that concerned and want to work for them again? Then again, I'm biased because I wouldn't like the job anyway...

Yea.. dude.. Europe>RAing. I mean, it's just true. I mean, if you were teaching them, then I'd consider, but RAing? Pssh.

Also, I am jealous and demand forthcoming postcards.

Well, here's the thing. Europe>RAing. absolutely. However, employment>unemployment, especially after graduation. I'm not getting paid that much, but I am getting paid. Do I really want to be an RA? I don't think I'll hate it, and more importantly, it will help me do something I actually want to do (ie. be a TA/instructor) in the future. I'm going to go talk to my prof who Knows All Things and also got me both the job and the money (though he would disagree with that) about my options. Right now, I am leaning towards taking the money and running, but I also have to consider my long term options. After all, I am not going to be so employable after I graduate...

You will be plenty employable Tiff, don't worry. But still, you should do whatever will make you feel like your summer was well spent. Imagine yourself next fall describing your summer to a friend and what would you want to say?

I know you said later that you should have waited to reply - but I'm glad you didn't. I think that's a wonderful way to think about it! - thanks :)
