I have to say that I never liked rap. Aside from a rare few early rappers here in the US, it was all about violence, misogynistic, the rappers all gangsta'd out and making weird exaggerated movements...yeah, absolutely nothing appealed to me at all. Although it interested me that one young rapper hopeful said that they wanted to rap about other things, but the American Music Industry felt only the Gangsta stuff sold, so that's all they promoted.
Then I discovered Sakurap. It's hopeful, happy, well-written and flows beautifully into the songs when paired with them. Plus, no one looks like a poser when doing it (Sho or the others). It was a huge eye-opening to me. I was all, "I fell for the RAPPER??" but quickly went to, "Ooo, someone who geeks out about words like me!" Sho, if only for this one thing I would love you :)
I don't like that kind of rap too >< but, most rappers in my country (there're not many of them, though) usually rap about slice of life things, so I like those who rap about that kind of thing ^^
I couldn't agree more with you <3 he writes them thoughtfully with his heart :)
I don't particularly feel for rap music, though one of my most favorite local artists was a rapper. It's just too sad that he's dead now, but his was one of the very, very few rap music I would listen to without second thoughts. He's helped inspire and shape Philippine rap music and brought the genre to a level where more people could relate to and actually appreciate and connect with it.
Then came the Sakurap, which actually reminded me a lot of this local artist's brand of rapping. And this is one of the things that I super looove about it~! You don't always have to be so angry and profane to put character to music, ne~! Sometimes, you can just be inspiring and grateful, too. ^__^<3
I love Sakurap too! ^^ Although its a bit slow compared to the rap that I knew and grew up with but still for me its very catchy and rhythmic. And every word that he wrote in his rap is very meaningful and being thought by him. I think in every rap he wrote, his intelligence shines. :)
