Why I Don't Make a Living Training Other People's Horses

I could totally get behind breeding some short, cobby draft horses. As a larger rider, that's an idea I've had for awhile now. Although I admit I have a compulsion to have a really nice mammoth jack and breed some stout, cobby mules :D

Of course you'd need some stout cobby mares to breed that jack to *grin.* If the Jutland breeding program ever comes to pass I'll be sure to let you know.

My husband loves his Belgian mare, though 16.3hh can be a bit to climb onto! Our pinto draft mare is a stout 15hh and that's a great size, but she was a bit of a fluke (both parents stood 16.3+). They just don't breed a medium/cob-sized draft horse. There are the gypsy horses, but you tend to get either the smaller vanner or the drum rather than the cob ... And they're obscenely expensive.

Plus, the US could use more than 5 1/2 draft breeds.
