So yesterday I was working Thunder (I think y'all could have guessed). To start on a good note on Monday I got him into the right lead under saddle, which is insanely good because I don't think he's done that since he was first started (if then). So Monday was a very good day for Thunder-butt. Tuesday the farrier came so my day was cut a little short.
Anyway, back to yesterday. Trying to get him in the right lead. I worked him from the ground before, got him in the left lead a couple times under saddle, and then proceedd to try and get him in the right lead. This is where things start to get a little less clear. I believe I had him in a tight turn and was asking him to pick it up, I used the whip and I'm pretty sure I only hit my leg and not him, at that I don't thing it was very hard. His reaction was a bit more than I expected, but I stayed on. I believe all four feet left the ground and were in the air, so he crow-hopped. When he came down to land, I think he was still slightly off-balanced and instead of landing on his feet he went all the way down. The next clear thing was seeing Thunder on his side, his neck bent to the left, getting ready to swing his legs up and roll over all the way, i.e. ontop of me. I vaugely remember striking him on the shoulder and yelling "get up!" Then it's a complete blank until I was standing up again several feet away with my hands on my knees. My vision faded in and out for a few moments.
I felt my left ear and there was blood on it. It freaked me out a little and I asked Rodrigo if my ear was bleeding. Thankfully it was just from a small cut behind my ear and another small cut on the upper part of the lobe.
It's funny the abstract litttle things you remember like seeing the nosepiece of my sunglasses in the sand and picking it up, or Rodrigo coming through the gate holding a basketball. I told him to take Thunder and untack him. I sat on a block next to the wash rack. I was having a little trouble breathing, I think I had the wind knocked out of me.
There was a little abnormality in my left eye for a few minutes, but that cleared up. I went inside and looked at my eyes in the bathroom mirror and they appeared to be responding normally.
I told Judy what happened and she sent me to lay on the couch until Mom and Lance came to get me. Chris called and was quite concerned, especially that I wasn't wearing my helmet. I don't think that'll happen anymore. Helmet=glued to head now.
Traveled towards Mom's, started feeling a bit off and ended up stopping at Krispy Kreme to make good use of their bathroom. Thankfully Judy gave me some slushy strawberry lemonade stuff so I had something in my stomach, otherwise it wouldn't have been very pretty as tossing stomache acid=not fun.
Showered up, Lance took me to Dr. Griner's and the verdict was a mild consussion.
I'm not too terribly sore, which is surprising, though I am going to spend some tie now and stretch.
Yes, I'm okay, don't worry. Still going to CA tomorrow and I'll be back to work on Monday. I'm giving myself a couple of days to limber back up.
