Kathryn's friend who I did two lessons with the last month lost her mare this week. They were trying for their first 100 mile ride Saturday and her mare, Sassy, "hit a wall" at the 70 mile vet check. Wow. That is terrible. What a amazing mare to do all of that and show no signs. They must be devastated and I can't imagine what it stirs up for you.

I know, impressive and terrible at the same time.

There was one rough night this week between that and some other things going on combining into an emotional trainwreck. Each on their own wasn't a big deal, but I'm sure you know how it is when several seemingly little things combine into a big deal. Of course I could just blame pregnancy horomones...

That is really really sad :( I wouldn't have imagined horses to be fragile creatures because like you say they are so strong and powerful, but like most 'prey' type animals I guess they can hide it really well. :(

They can be so stoic. I have met some that are more "wussy," but the majority you have to really be on the ball to catch something and sometimes they totally blindside you because there's no warning until it's catastrophic.

Powerful and fragile at the same time.
