Alle die Schritte

I think I'm done counting my steps. I've had my step counter on my phone going since March for my own amusement. I do have to say it habitually undercounts my steps, especially on Sundays when my phone spends much of the time sitting on the counter doing absolutely nothing while I'm doing laps around the church with little men (we tend to get ( Read more... )

Have you thought about using a fitbit or a regular pedometer instead of your phone to track your steps? I find it obnoxious having to carry my phone in order for steps to count and I don't get good readings.

The plain pedometers are definitely in my comfortable price rangen butI can think of better ways to spend $100+ than on a fitbit. I think you mentioned the wristbands can get a big grungy for those of us out in the dust, sweat, and horsehair. What do you use, if anything, to track your activity?

I need to decide how important it is for me to track steps and what information I really want. Steps are cool, but if I am going to seriously track something I'm thinking more of distance and average and max speed since I'm wanting to get into some running as it cools back down and that's also useful info when working the horses.

I'll ruminate on it some more. It was fun and interesting to track and the brief warm-fuzzy for having met my step goal for the day was nice, but I'm debating on the amount to invest (both time and money) into keeping it up.

I used to use a fitbit to track my steps but yes, it got grungy, though within my tolerance levels, about as gross as my watch often gets. It got so grungy it stopped charging after about 4 years (which is pretty impressive for how hard I am on things!).

Now I figure I get steps just fine especially when I'm actively running so I don't worry about steps anymore. For runs I use a Garmin Forerunner 230 (which is "cheaper" than the fancy ones and WAY more expensive than a fitbit). I only use it for running and it maps my route, keeps track of my pace, and monitors my heart rate live via a chest strap. I can look at my stats on my phone or online later and track all my runs and my weekly/monthly/yearly mileage effortlessly.

If I couldn't afford the Forerunner I might get the Garmin Vivofit - especially with it's convenient 1 year battery life compared to having to take off and charge the fitbit every few days.

Four years isn't a bad lifespan considering the environment.

The Garmins sounds awesome and perhaps worth saving up for as I am much more interested in my "active" stats than when I'm just puttering around. Thanks for the input and feedback!
