The whole free-not-free horse thing is complicated. I'm sure if the girl was looking at a potential buyer who would be a forever home she'd give the horse away for free but since she bought the horse to flip her and put work into her I'd be surprised if she'd give that work away for free to someone else who might significantly profit off of that - its one thing to do the work to give the horse a better life than to do it to make flipping her easier for someone else ( ... )

O yes, definitely from her perspective the lease is a crap shoot since she's seen us once and there's only so much information you can gather watching someone around a horse in that sparse amount of time. I am well aware of how badly a lease or trial can go (Panda spending a week and a half in New Mexico...). If they do a lease vs. outright purchase there will be a contract that will hopefully protect both parties.

I haven't talked with them since we went over, but I did have a good chat with my bodyworker who initially informed me about him. He's been a very sound horse, though is a mild cribber given the opportunity (an automatic no sale for some people). The girl has had him at home since January and he was at a rescue/therapy place before that. Somehow the rescue/therapy place may still be involved and that would be something to ask about to be sure he is clear to be sold on.

I'm really enjoying seeing your painting come along! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks! I'm excited to see it get finished as well. I do find it gratifying to sit down and find it looking better than when I left it instead of worse! Hoping to make some good progress in the next week.

Ha, Bucket is such a great name. He sounds pretty sweet, if a little unused to work.

He does seem like a good egg. I did find out he is a mild (thankfully) windsucker/cribber. He is a really nice mover and supposedly doesn't do it when he's turnes out all the time, but that's neither here nor there and up to the S family to decide!
