I introduced pen-and-ink today and we had some fun with contour drawings and playing with textures. I grabbed a nib for myself and did a little work as the students scratched away on their papers.

Thanks! Stippling is both awesome and torturous. You can zone out to an extent because it takes so long to build density for the dark spots, but it can get a bit tedious. There was no base sketch on this one, just dots.

More as in working on this particular one or more as in similar work? I don't know if I'll continue this one, but I might take some more forays into stippling. I really like the look of it when all is said and done.

Yeah I figure it can be nice when you get into a 'zone' but otherwise can be time consuming
similar work in general :D whether you decide to do more to this particular one or not.

I imagine it might be similar to your pixel art, one colored dot at a time. It had been some ten years since I last stippled, but I do think I'll be doing more of it and try not to go so far between again! This was without a sketch and it was nice being able to shift things around and modify the shape as I went since I started with small, spaced dots it gave me a lot of flexibility.

I need to be better about sketching and sharing.

Oh, I really like that eye. And the cougar sketches are neat too, especially the one where he's got his back to the viewer.

Thanks! The eye was from a picture of Panda, who always had such a nice eye, even if it often looked slightly concerned.

Those sketches are so good! I love the horse's eye, and I'm in awe of anyone who can draw on a phone/tablet ... my computer switches round to become a sort of graphics tablet, but I haven't mastered the skill of actually drawing on it yet. :P

Thanks! It helps that my phone has a pressure-sensitive stylus (so long as the boys haven't been pestering it too much...). Doing it without the pressure sensitivity is doable, but a lot more frustrating since it doesn't really act like any real media out there in that case.
