Bud

I finally got back to working Bud two weeks ago. We had about a month off because Sue's body worker suggested he not do anything like collected work for two weeks after being worked on and she didn't want the breastcollar pushing on his shoulders either. I wonder if a collar or a more shaped breastcollar would do better for him. Sue has been ( Read more... )

One of my first back to work arena rides with Quest was when the BO's mother opened up the below-ground pool at the back of her house/right by the arena. The first cannonball splash was very....fun to ride lol

Sounds like Bud is doing well so far though, lLooking forward to hearing about his progress!

I can imagine! Almost all the things a horse doesn't like: quick movement, sudden noise, and rapidly changing light (as the water reflects). This was a below ground pool too and the sun was right above it making it extra shiny. I'm happy he kept as much of his brain as he did!

He has come a LONG way from when I firsr started working him three years ago. If you're curious you should be able to follow the Bud tag.

I think any horse wouldnt have been to happy about the pool thing. Good for him. When i was young i was on a trail ride with my mom, sister, and aunt in arizona and some kids decided to push a go kart down the hill we were going down. My aunts dude horse flipped out and bolted and she fell off and hit her head (she was ok, minus a big goose egg, and that accident actually helped the doctors find herniated disks in her back she'd had from before). But even dude horses can spook, so good on Bud for keeping his brain!

Yep, given the right circumstance any horse will spook! They are designed to run first and ask questions later after all.

I am pleased with how quickly he came back, especially since I picked up the reins from Sue mid-spook. He's turned out to be a very good driving horse and now it is about bringing Sue's confidence up to speed.
