Moss Rock Endurance Bitless Bridles

Feb 26, 2015 14:11

I initially was looking at bitless bridles for two reasons. One: I have a lot of beginner students who are still developing independent seats and do not always have the best hands to begin with. Two: I wanted another thing to try on Sunny because she seemed to not like the Dr. Cooks cross-under style bridle that Marty had purchased for her and ( Read more... )

Interesting. How do you feel they release? My experience with Doctor Cook's ( of which I am not a fan ) has been that taking up the rein is fine, but when you give it back, it never seems to release back to where you started. Before you know it the buckle on the reins is somewhere off to the left or right and there it stays for the rest of the ride. Do you find these stay more even?

I think if I was using horses to teach I would certainly have riders start out bitless.

I think that they do. I don't know about the Freedom style, but the Evolution having the lower attachment point as well as the throatlatch seems to lend more stability. I have not yet noticed any disparity in the reins at the end of the ride, but will be extra aware of that as I use them the next few days and let you know.

The Nurtural Bridle has a "circle-x" that the rein straps go through and supposedly prevents the problem the Dr. Cook bridles have with the release. They also have a couple other features that they believe improve on the original design. I have a friend with one and she and her horse really like it. It was just a bit out of my price range for an experiment, though I would be curious to try it. I haven't found it yet, but I wonder if they would sell just the circle-x or not (probably not from the looks of it).

Another one I am really curious about is The Matrix from Bitless and Barefoot , which isn't too bad a price considering all of the options it gives you. Maybe another time I am feeling adventurous and ( ... )

I can testify that the Nurtural bridle is the biggest pain in the ass with that "patented circle X!!!!"
I didn't feel like it had any more of a release than the knock off Dr.Cook I have now, and all the buckles and keepers were a HUGE pain imo. Uugh the Nurtural was a horrible first experience with bitless bridles.

Good to know! I assume it isn't the way to go if you are using it on multiple horses with having to adjust the circle-x.

So the actual reins are crossed under on the bridle and clipped up on the cheek?

Yes they do, which is probably my favorite feature. With Kitt's and the blue that Kash and Chewy will be sharing I had her use conways on the rein ends so I could experiment with different types of snaps (seeing if I can find something I like more than the scissor snaps she does standard). She usually has the snaps stitched in to the ends.
