and justice for all

I've tried to avoid the Zimmerman trial because it's too rage-making for me to handle. But this quote needs to be noted.

"The only one who was injured at all-except for the gunshot-was George Zimmerman." -Defense Counsel Mark O'Mara, in his closing remarks ( Read more... )

trayvon martin, george zimmerman, racism, no justice no peace, how is this man not disbarred

Florida and Texas, man, they make me so sad. Unfortunately, I've lived in one and currently reside in the other. I want to move, but then that'll be one less voice of reason/vote.

I feel for you, being outnumbered like that. *hugs*

Thanks. I'm grateful I live in a major metropolitan area, we're the only blue sections in a red state. With all of my friends voting the same as me, I don't feel outnumbered until crap like this happens.

I don't understand the court system that allows the jury to be made up of only 6 people, white women all except one, especially in a case so racially charged. I will say this, if he gets acquitted, he'd better go into hiding. If he thought Trayvon was scared by being chased, he'll get a good taste of it. I'm not inciting people to do it, but I can understand why they'd be so fucking angry about how the whole system has let the Martin family down in far too many ways.

And I'd be shocked if there weren't riots if he's not found guilty of at the very least manslaughter.

What really gets to me is if the situation were reversed and it had been Trayvon who killed that asshole, he'd already be behind bars, no doubt in my mind.

You're absolutely right, he would be. I guess Zimmerman better start running, because he was just acquitted. God, this country.

I just saw that. It makes me heartsick.

I just don't understand how a man can kill an unarmed child and get away with it.

Pathetic.

I haven't been following the trial either so I don't know if they met the burden of proof they needed to get a 2nd degree murder conviction but if the jury were given the option for a manslaughter conviction they might be able to get that.

I have seen a little analysis that suggested that the prosecution hadn't proved its case for murder 2, that they'd been a little lazy. Which may explain why the son of a bitch was just acquitted. I can't even.

That mindset is alive and well. Jesus, this country.
