The problem is, that I always think: How can shit like this happen today? But the real problem is that I was thinking that very often in the last years. Idek.

It does feel surreal. For all of the prattle about "free speech" and "democracy" and "American exceptionalism" (barf) from our leaders, those in power here are really indistinguishable from any other authoritarian regime. They haven't learned anything from history.

When I heard they'd not just confiscated the books but destroyed many of them I just wanted to cry.

It's fairly obvious no-one in the city government is a student of history or they'd understand just how heinous their actions are.

You know, my mother (79 years old and a retired librarian) had her doubts about Occupy until I told her about the library. Now she has her doubts about the cops. *g*
