I was more than half way through The Magician's Nephew when I was told not to read it first. I could not bare to stop half way through. I did in fact finish before moving on to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I moved right in to reading Price Caspian after that

Haven't read Dawn Treader yet? That's one of my absolute favorites.
And it is fine to read Magician's Nephew before the rest. Chronologically it is the first. However, I believe it was actually the sixth book to be published. Depending on the set you get, you'll find it packaged as either number.

And doesn't it make you smile to see the Professor (in Wardrobe) after reading Magician's Nephew? ;)
