Say, where are you living? I play guitar, my kid sister plays drums, but she's probably going to learn tabla at some point which, I'm sure you agree, is one hell of a sexy instrument. Although to play tabla well will require a huge investment of your time.

I live in Lahore where it is very, very easy to get a tabla teacher and it's dirt cheap as well. I might go in for classical vocal training some day, if I ever get the time. South Asian classical vocals are so amazing.

i live in the US. i am thinking of traveling to india next summer to stay there and learn music for a couple of months. i expect lessons here to be very costly.

it's great that you enjoy music too =)
did you learn to play the guitar by yourself? my sister wants to get one and learn how to play it. my brother plays the trumpet, and i play the flute and keyboard. but western music is so different from classical south asian music! i really want to learn more about it.

would you be able to recommend websites that have more info about it, or any musicians to listen to?

I don't know about any websites, and I don't listen to very many classical Indian artists, but I listen to a lot of classical Pakistani artists, a few of which were very famous in India also. I don't suppose you've heard of Nur Jahan? She was one of the most brilliant vocalists Pakistan has ever produced. Off the top of my head, here are some good Pakistani vocalists ( ... )
