Today I have mostly been dealing with the fact that my employers need at least two technical writers, and only have one. I am keenly aware of the things that are not getting done, I'm worried that my boss will look at me all reproachfully and Be Serious at me, and I'm simultaneously drowning just trying to keep up with the changes development have ( Read more... )

Is there some reason your employer can't hire a second technical writer?

it requires a text file input and they don't know what a text file is

I did once have a customer who, when I said "send it to me as a text file" sent a .doc instead.

We don't have the budget in this financial year. We might get it sometime in the summer.

And even if we could hire someone right now, they wouldn't be able to help me meet my current deadlines; the learning curve here is insane.

I can't say much here since your post is unlocked, but a certain other person has a very similar work situation where in fact the new member of staff needed training by her, which made the workload even worse!

I feel the certain other person's pain. That will, yes, also be a problem for me when the time comes; even if I could schedule proper product training, how to use the product isn't even a quarter of what someone needs to know to document it!
