I AM NOT IMPRESSED RIGHT NOW. What do I have to do to get gay marriage approved in these states?! I'm not expecting it be okayed in my state, because my opinion on Ohio can be pretty much summed up as 'get out get out get out', but New England was supposed to agree with me here!
Also, you should update more! I miss talking about books with you!
I always have the best of intentions to update, and then I fall asleep. :)
Have you ever read the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace? I'm reading the reprints of the high school years, and they're DELIGHTFUL. They remind me a bit of Anne of Green Gables, only not quite as Anne-ish.
It's very mindboggling, especially since the polls were so close. It won by like a six or seven point margin, didn't it?
Ooh, yes, I have! Except I didn't realize there were reprints (though now I've pulled them up on Amazon and am ogling them, because oh, I think they want to come live with me!). Betsy is such a likable character - although I don't remember much about Joe in comparison to the other characters, so I kind of want to reread them and see if I disliked him for some reason or if he just wasn't as memorable as other male love interests from books I grew up reading, like Gilbert and Laurie - and I love how charming and homey they are.
The numbers I saw before I turned the tv off in frustration had it winning with 53%. I'm pretty sure it's going to be 6 points when everything's tallied.
They're really cute reprints, too! So far (and I'm only a little way into her junior year) I'm more in love with the old fashioned, slow moving, cozy world it presents rather than any of the characters specifically. And (again, so far) Joe seems to be on the periphery too much. I know he'll start becoming more important - spoiler alert, the title of the next book! - but I want to know more about him NOW.
But it would be tough to have Gilbert Blythe as your competition. (I had positive but not strong feelings towards Laurie. Maybe it's time to reread.)
Let me qualify why I failed to show up and hopefully keep myself from being shunned: THEY HELD THE LOCAL ELECTION YESTERDAY, APPARENTLY, AND DID NOT TELL ANYBODY? THE FUCK?!
The mayoral election. But considering the town I'm registered in is like super small and all the mayor does is show up at the college to judge ethics bowls and such (and like, hang out, presumably, as he seems to be friends with half my dorm on Facebook) I'm thinking that it wasn't all that dramatic of an election.
