Cat Adoption

I've started to inquire about kittens at shelters and I have to admit it's a little bit frustrating. I've always been given the impression shelters are overcrowded and desperate to find homes for their animals. I've inquired about at least three different kittens now at different shelters. Totally random stranger dropping to do say, you might be having a problem finding kittens in shelters because it isn't really kitten season. I know cats can vary in their heat times and thus kittens can be born all the time, however I've noticed that there tends to be a surpluss of young kittens around late May/June/early July.

And there is nothing wrong with wanting the kitten experince, they are super fun and they're only like that once in their lives.

Hi. :) While there hasn't been as much choice I have found kittens I'm interested in, but the shelters aren't getting back to me about them. I've e-mailed one twice, tried calling once and got an answering machine. :\ I saw a post advocating adopting from a shelter rather than finding kittens via the classifieds and I thought well, gee, I can see why people opt to just find free kittens it's a lot less hassle! Hell, as it is, most shelters seem to require an application process with fees, references, sometimes home checks, etc. I understand wanting to make sure an animal is going to be well cared for in a permanent home, but I haven't even been able to get information about becoming 'pre-approved' to adopt.
