Being on the lookout for things is made easier when you know what to be on the lookout for.  Being on the lookout for things is made less boring when something is actually happening.

Unfortunately for Jamie, he neither knows what he is meant to be looking for, nor can he notice anything unusual at all, other than the normal unusual things.  So he ( Read more... )

Zoe's been tromping through the land all day, searching for anything out of the ordinary and recruiting some of the more reliable fairies to help. Searching from the skies, they could cover ground much faster than she could.

She'd assumed Jamie had been doing much the same -- that is, until she comes across him stretched out comfortably on a hillside. Though it's quite impossible to get too cross with her friend, she frowns down at him.

"Oh, Jamie! I thought you'd come out to help."

Jamie frowns. He's half tempted to tell Zoe to 'go away, I'm sleeping,' but decides that would probably only serve to make her more cross.

"I did," he instead tells her, "I looked around. I helped. There's nothing unusual at all, Zoe, I'm sure of it, now please let me get some rest."

To emphasize his point, he rolls over on to his side.

"Oh, do come on, Jamie. There could be anything out there and we won't know unless we look."

She scowls at his back for a moment before, with a resigned sigh, sitting on the grass beside him.

"I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary either, but that just means we have to keep looking. The Mistress wouldn't have asked us to do any of this if there weren't cause."

"Or maybe she's as bored as I am," Jamie replies back.

He sighs, and sits up. It doesn't seem like Zoe is going to let him take his nap any time soon, so he might as well give up. "We dinna even know what it is we're meant to be looking for, Zoe."

Vila is walking along the hillside. He's been walking for a while, and isn't terribly happy about it. He mutters a curse under his breath against Dorian (who sent him on this journey in the first place, having hid the good wine, and all) and nearly trips over Jamie.

"Hey," Jamie mutters, half asleep. "What where you're --" But as soon as he opens his eyes, he notices he doesn't actually know this person. Odd, because he knows a great deal of the people here. "Who're ye then?"

"Oh, uh, sorry. Didn't see you there." he apologizes.

Honestly, who takes naps out in the open? Oh, right. People who weren't at the top of the Federation's most wanted list. Perhaps this person's either completely fearless - or... nothing to worry about.

"My name's Vila."

Jamie stands, brushes some of the dirt off of his knees and kilt, then extends a hand. "I'm Jamie McCrimmon. Ye must be new here."

Which is strange, he thinks, because he hadn't heard anything about the Mistress adding anyone.
