My name is Kristen and I live in Texas.  My parents were raised in a small town in the south eastern corner of New Mexico called Jal.  My grandfather still lives there and I go out there about twice a year.  Jal is about 20 miles north of Kermit, and about 45 miles from Odessa ( Read more... )

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

Sure, in the story versions of Vegas, Rene and I made stuff up... An orange grove in the desert? NO WAY!! *gasp-p!* But that's artistic license. It's a story, and a fantasy one at that. In a fantasy story, if I want an orange grove, THERE'S A FREAKIN ORANGE GROVE. But TV is different!! There should be accuracy and continuity!

And we're making the audio version of Vegas accurate, damn it! We're making a flipping effort! It's not like they can't get someone to look up this stuff when they're writing the fricking scripts... :P

....Wow... I am REALLY on my period..... >_

I KNOW! Things like that are ok, because there could possibly be someone trying to grow oranges, using some new hydroponic. You are putting in something temporary. They put a freaking mountain in Kermit. Texas has been suffering this kind of crap for years.

Kinda like how on the X-Files movie there's a scene where you can see the dallas skyline in the distance about 30 miles to the southeast and all around is high desert and mountains and that's the same view of Dallas I would have if my view wasnt obscured by... Trees, suburbs, and a huge flippin airport.

Misrepresentation of a place can get annoying, but my family believes that Kansas is misrepresented on purpose. The Kansas City area is actually a fabulous place to live, but it wouldn't be if it got overpopulated. My folks figure that the "hayseed" reputation of Kansas is purposefully promoted *by* Kansans to keep other people away.

Your icon makes me ROTFLOL. As does your comment. I would say that about Midland/Odessa/Kermit... Except they make it look WAY better than it really is.
