There was a segment on CTV news tonight called something like "what you need to know about the harmonized sales tax". Hey, I could have done that segment! You know, because, if nothing else, I am known for my frugality and economic expertise. Anyhow, here we go, everything you need to know about HST: Shit is going to cost more. It is fine for stuff like that, and browsing the web, but typing/editing anything of any length is kind of ridiculous.

yep sales tax is going up here as well, the only way to avoid paying it? Buy less crap folks.

I was a bit excited when it was first introduced/talked about because they said books and "feminine hygiene products" would now be exempt from tax and i thought "great! that's everything i buy!" But then the brochure came out and books are still taxed and government fails. You think they'd give us our pleasures tax-free given this new tornado/death ridden climate. I'm moving to Norway, nothing bad ever happens to Norwegians.

Haha, actually, I have entertained the Norway notion before as well. I remember reading somewhere that Oslo is the safest or one of the safest cities to live in the world. And yes, taxing books is just criminal.
