What about sewing...?

So, I was given a sewing machine a little under a year ago and have not used it all that much. But I did some Monday all by myself... and I am finding that the biggest challenge to sewing has nothing... NOTHING to do with the machine- that part is pretty easy really. I *hate* patterns.

Something that might help is to take a skirt (or whatever you're making) that's already made and look at the pieces that go into it and how they're assembled. I've had a few aha moments looking at pants when I was trying to make a pair of shorts.

Also, you might start with an easy pattern for a skirt or jacket. I know Simplicity and McCalls both make easy patterns that are also cute and wearable. You don't necessarily need to start with pillows or curtains...all those teach you is how to sew a straight line. :P

Thank you!!! For the advice and the encouragement, I am glad someone else agrees that we don't have to start with making pillows or crap! :D
