OH GOD ANOTHER FANDOM.

Sep 27, 2011 22:23

Okay, I just want the Internets to know that I kind of hate gaycrow right now? Because she has INTRODUCED ME TO MORE ADORABLE BRITISH BOYS AND REALLY, I HAVE ENOUGH BRITISH BOYS ON MY PLATE RIGHT NOW, THANKS.

And like Cabin Pressure and Jeeves and Wooster, it's another teeny tiny fandom that produces awesome fic in sadly small quantities.

Oh, fuck it, here, if I'm going down I'm going to try to take some of you with me, because THAT IS HOW I ROLL.

First, I'm not going to waste time: check out
garryowen's posts here and here to get a sense of who I'm talking about, then come back.

Are you back? YAY. I've only seen the pilot so far, and read some fantastic fic, and I have to say I'm already fucking hooked. I already have an age difference kink, as anyone who's read my Snape/Harry and John McClane/Matt Farrell fic will know, and this just pushes all my buttons. Lewis (Kevin Whately) is such a woobie, and Hathaway (Laurence Fox) is self-possessed, humble and yet a little smug, which makes him interesting, and he's also sure right from the beginning that Lewis is it - yeah, it's impossible not to fall. All through the pilot, you're aware that the Lewis/Hathaway pairing is supposed to be temporary, and it seems like it might be that way: Lewis is obviously shattered by the death of his wife and his old partner, and his loss of faith makes him stroppy with ex-seminary student Hathaway. And then at the end, Hathaway gets the chance to get his real DI back (apparently Detective Inspectors in Britain get their very own Detective Sergeants to play with. It's AWESOME), BUT HE CHOOSES LEWIS INSTEAD (or more specifically, he basically tells his boss that LEWIS CAN HAVE HIM IF HE WANTS) AND HE LOOKS AT HIM LIKE THIS HOLY CRAP:

And the only other thing I've seen so far is an interview recorded earlier this year in which Whately and Fox promote the latest (fifth) series. AND THEN THIS HAPPENS.

Interviewer: Is there anything to make Hathaway warm and comfortable this time?

Fox: I was going to be a priest, and then I had some transsexual love -

(Whately sporfles)

- I'm not really - where is my love interest?

AND THEN HE POINTS AT WHATELY.

Interviewers (sensing things are going south): No - erm, no love interest?

Fox: I might - fall in love with you. Kind of a Brokeback Mountain thing.

Interviewers: *splutter a lot of gibberish*

OH MY GOD.

I couldn't find the interview on YT, but you can get it here. Oh, and Laurence Fox's voice is very close to Cumberbatch's - the accent isn't quite as posh, but the baritone is very, very nice. NOT THAT I AM TRYING TO INFLUENCE YOU OR ANYTHING.

Tomorrow there will be Click the "next" button for fic recs and fandom pimping! :)
